Garnet- Faceted Nugget

A garnet nugget is a rough, naturally shaped piece of the garnet mineral, which is a group of silicate minerals with a diverse range of chemical compositions. While most people associate garnet with a deep red color, it can appear in many hues, including red, orange, brown, & black. These nuggets range in size from approx. 6mm-10mm. Each one is unique in facets and texture.

Shape: The term "nugget" implies a natural, unpolished, organic, and irregular shape, unlike a cut and polished gemstone.

Color: While red varieties like almandine and pyrope are most common, garnet nuggets can showcase the wide spectrum of garnet colors. For example, spessartine is an orange garnet and tsavorite is a green garnet. The color may not be uniform throughout the nugget, showing different shades or inclusions.

Clarity: Garnet nuggets can range from opaque to translucent, and sometimes contain visible inclusions of other minerals.

Texture: Depending on how it was formed and processed, a nugget may have a rough, matte, or a lightly tumbled and polished surface. A naturally-found nugget will have a more rugged, unfinished appearance.

Appearance: The resulting nugget can be a small, rounded pebble worn smooth by a river or a larger, raw clump of inter-grown crystals
